Categories -Dong Yen Wu and I have finished editing the videos of my Songs of the Raccoon Dogs (Hokklo Folk Transcriptions) , recorded by soprano Ying-Tzu Huang, pianist Chiu Hsing-Tzu, and flautist Huang Ming-Li.
These transcriptions (in both the ethnomusicological and Finnissian sense) are part of a creative practice that I have been developing over the past decade, which could be described as “composition as ethnomusicology”. I talk about this in my article of the same title and in my 2023 keynote address at the Principles of Music Composing conference in Lithuania (links below).
