You have iframes disabled or your browser does not support them.<\/span><span class=\"error-link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/142a56e575c4091295d66a62af658b6a.bandcamp.com\/track\/360336449\/\" target=\"_blank\">Open link in a new tab.<\/a><\/span><\/iframe><!-- Ending bandcamp iframe embed for https:\/\/142a56e575c4091295d66a62af658b6a.bandcamp.com\/track\/360336449\/ --><!-- Cached embed generated on June 7th 2026, 02:25:20 PM) -->\n<p>The title was prompted by composer and performer Ignacio Agrimbau, who suggested I write a piece without dedication, and which did not purport to convey extra-musical meaning.<\/p>\n<p>The piece has two start- and end-points (the player can choose which \u201ccycle\u201d of the music he or she plays).\u00a0 The piece <em>does <\/em>have a visual image behind it, that of a globe spinning on its axis.\u00a0 Depending on where the player begins and ends, we begin either in the light, move through the dark, and return to the light, or the process happens the other way round (dark-light-dark).<\/p>\n<p>The piece is also a study in polyphonic violin technique: a cantilena in longer durations is accompanied by various trills, tremolos, counter-melodies, and tapping-sounds.<\/p>\n<p>Aisha Orazbayeva played the piece, from both start-points, in the first of my Southampton &#8220;Composer Portrait&#8221;
