The original &#8220;music bureau&#8221; was an office during the Qin dynasty that collected the songs sung by the common folk, as a means of monitoring popular sentiment. This later crystallised into a literary genre in which the poet assumes the voice of a fictional individual who usually expresses dissatisfaction with a certain state of affairs.<\/p>\n<p>The narrative voice of the first song, &#8220;War South of the Great Wall&#8221;, is a soldier complaining of the relentless and ultimately futile marches and battles to which the generals subject him. With a view to evoking the sentiment and imagery of the various sections of the poem, the composer transcribed the tempi, rhythmic figures and melodic shapes of different contemporary Chinese military marches, although much of the melodic material alludes to Liu Tian-Hua&#8217;s 1931 solo erhu piece <em>Enlightened<\/em> (or <em>Glorious<\/em>) <em>Journey<\/em>. The music moves from sentimentality through self-confidence to terror and abject horror at the nightmarish melee of battle. The music of the final stanza mimics the tempo and texture of a sombre ceremonial yayue (gagaku), as a subsitute funeral march for the slain soldiers.<\/p>\n<p>The narrative voice of the second song, &#8220;Letter from Changgan Village&#8221;, is a teenage bride who relates marrying and gradually falling in love with her childhood playmate, only for him to depart on a long river journey, never to return. She describes her solitude and grief, but also the vain hope that he will eventually come home. The music initially evokes a simple children&#8217;s song or a folk song, subsequently evolving into a passionate love song and a forlorn complaint, before finally achieving a meagre hint of hope at her husband&#8217;s return. Structurally the music resembles a double variation, with the B theme functioning like a refrain that reprises the fifth and sixth lines of the poem. The A theme is a very distant derivation of the Hokkien song \u201cThe Drums of the Fifth Watch&#8221; (a song which also ends in the abandonment of a house-bound women), filtered through seven different natural and &#8220;artificial&#8221; modal lenses, and presented as a series of inverted canons projected onto vertical sets.<\/p>\n<p><em>South of the Great Wall<\/em> is dedicated to Chaoming Tung, and was commissioned by the C-Camerata Taipei, who premiered it in a trio version for sheng, pipa and &#8216;cello at the Passauer Saiten Guitar Festival on March 3rd 2024. The full quintet version was subsequently premiered in the C-Camerata Taipei &#8220;Crossing Sounds&#8221; Contemporary Music Festival, at the Forum Music Auditorium in Taipei, on March 30th 2024.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u66f2\u89e3\uff1a <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u300a\u57ce\u5357\u8352\u539f\u300b\u70ba\u50b3\u7d71\u7b19\u3001\u7435\u7436\u3001\u5409\u4ed6\u3001\u5973\u9ad8\u97f3\u548c\u5927\u63d0\u7434\u800c\u4f5c\uff0c\u662f\u4f5c\u66f2\u5bb6\u6839\u64da\u81ea\u5df1\u7684\u82f1\u6587\u8b6f\u672c\u5275\u4f5c\u7684\u5169\u9996\u6a02\u66f2\uff0c\u8a72\u8b6f\u672c\u7ffb\u8b6f\u81ea\u674e\u767d\uff08701-762\uff09\u6240\u4f5c\u7684\u300c\u6a02\u5e9c\u8a69\u300d\u3002\u300c\u6a02\u5e9c\u300d\u4e00\u8a5e\u672c\u4f86\u662f\u6307\u8d77\u6e90\u65bc\u79e6\u671d\uff0c\u8ca0\u8cac\u6536\u96c6\u666e\u901a\u767e\u59d3\u6240\u50b3\u5531\u6c11\u9593\u6b4c\u66f2\u7684\u6a5f\u69cb\uff0c\u9019\u5728\u7576\u6642\u4e5f\u662f\u4f5c\u70ba\u76e3\u63a7\u6c11\u60c5\u7684\u624b\u6bb5\u4e4b\u4e00\u3002\u5f8c\u4f86\uff0c\u300c\u6a02\u5e9c\u300d\u4e00\u8a5e\u9010\u6f38\u5730\u6f14\u8b8a\u6210\u4e00\u7a2e\u6587\u5b78\u9ad4\u88c1\uff0c\u5728\u9019\u7a2e\u9ad4\u88c1\u7684\u8a69\u6b4c\u4e2d\uff0c\u8a69\u4eba\u7d93\u5e38\u6703\u900f\u904e\u6f14\u7e79\u4e00\u500b\u865b\u69cb\u4eba\u7269\u7684\u5fc3\u8072\uff0c\u4f86\u6292\u767c\u5c0d\u67d0\u7a2e\u72c0\u6cc1\u7684\u4e0d\u6eff\u3002<\/p>\n<p>\u7b2c\u4e00\u9996\uff08\u300a\u6230\u57ce\u5357\u300b\uff09\u7684\u6558\u4e8b\u8005\u662f\u4e00\u540d\u58eb\u5175\uff0c\u4ed6\u57cb\u6028\u8457\u5c07\u8ecd\u5be6\u884c\u8457\u7121\u60c5\u4e14\u6700\u7d42\u5f92\u52de\u7121\u529f\u7684\u9577\u9014\u8ecd\u65c5\u548c\u6230\u722d\u3002\u70ba\u4e86\u559a\u8d77\u8a69\u6b4c\u5404\u90e8\u5206\u7684\u60c5\u611f\u548c\u610f\u8c61\uff0c\u4f5c\u66f2\u5bb6\u8f49\u9304\u4e86\u7576\u4ee3\u5404\u7a2e\u4e0d\u540c\u4e2d\u570b\u9032\u884c\u66f2\u7684\u901f\u5ea6\u3001\u7bc0\u594f\u578b\u548c\u65cb\u5f8b\u7dda\u689d\uff0c\u5118\u7ba1\u5f88\u591a\u65cb\u5f8b\u6750\u6599\u90fd\u5728\u6697\u793a\u5289\u5929\u83ef1931\u5e74\u7684\u7368\u594f\u4e8c\u80e1\u4f5c\u54c1\u300a\u5149\u660e\u884c\u300b\u3002\u97f3\u6a02\u5148\u662f\u591a\u6101\u5584\u611f\u7e7c\u800c\u8d70\u5411\u4fe1\u5fc3\u5341\u8db3\u7684\uff0c\u518d\u8f49\u8b8a\u70ba\u5c0d\u6230\u722d\u5669\u5922\u822c\u7684\u6050\u61fc\u548c\u6050\u6016\u4e4b\u4e2d\u3002\u6700\u5f8c\u4e00\u6bb5\u97f3\u6a02\u6a21\u4eff\u81ea\u96c5\u6a02\u7684\u9670\u6c89\u7bc0\u594f\u548c\u7e54\u9ad4\uff0c\u5247\u662f\u4ee3\u8868\u8457\u9663\u4ea1\u58eb\u5175\u7684\u846c\u79ae\u9032\u884c\u66f2\u3002<\/p>\n<p>\u7b2c\u4e8c\u9996\uff08\u300a\u9577\u5e72\u884c\u300b\uff09\u7684\u6558\u4e8b\u8005\u662f\u4e00\u4f4d\u65b0\u5a5a\u7684\u5c11\u5973\uff0c\u5979\u8b1b\u8ff0\u81ea\u5df1\u8207\u5152\u6642\u73a9\u4f34\u88ab\u5f37\u8feb\u7d50\u6210\u9023\u7406\u4e26\u9010\u6f38\u76f8\u611b\u3001\u4fe1\u4efb\uff0c\u7d50\u679c\u4e08\u592b\u537b\u63da\u6cb3\u800c\u53bb\uff0c\u4e00\u53bb\u4e0d\u5fa9\u8fd4\u7684\u6545\u4e8b\u3002\u5979\u4e00\u65b9\u9762\u63cf\u8ff0\u8457\u81ea\u5df1\u7684\u5b64\u7368\u8207\u60b2\u50b7\uff0c\u53e6\u4e00\u65b9\u9762\u537b\u4e5f\u8868\u9054\u51fa\u5c0d\u4e08\u592b\u6700\u7d42\u6703\u8fd4\u5bb6\u7684\u98c4\u6e3a\u5e0c\u671b\u3002\u97f3\u6a02\u6700\u521d\u7531\u4e00\u9996\u7c21\u55ae\u7684\u5152\u6b4c\u6216\u6c11\u6b4c\u6240\u559a\u8d77\uff0c\u96a8\u5f8c\u6f14\u8b8a\u6210\u4e00\u9996\u6fc0\u60c5\u7684\u611b\u60c5\u6b4c\u548c\u4e00\u9996\u60b2\u6dbc\u7684\u82e6\u60c5\u6b4c\u3002\u6700\u7d42\uff0c\u7576\u4e08\u592b\u6b78\u4f86\u7684\u53ef\u80fd\u6027\u5e7e\u8fd1\u6e3a\u832b\u6642\uff0c\u5979\u4ecd\u7136\u6a02\u89c0\u5730\u76f8\u4fe1\uff0c\u6216\u8a31\u6709\u4e00\u5929\u4ed6\u6703\u56de\u4f86\u3002\u5728\u7d50\u69cb\u4e0a\uff0c\u9019\u9996\u97f3\u6a02\u985e\u4f3c\u65bc\u4e00\u500b\u96d9\u8b8a\u594f\uff0cB\u4e3b\u984c\u50cf\u4e00\u500b\u526f\u6b4c\uff0c\u91cd\u65b0\u6f14\u594f\u8a69\u6b4c\u7684\u7b2c\u4e94\u548c\u7b2c\u516d\u500b\u8a69\u884c\u3002A\u4e3b\u984c\u662f\u798f\u4f6c\u66f2\u8abf\u300a\u4e94\u66f4\u9f13\u300b\u7684\u6975\u5ea6\u9059\u9060\u4e4b\u8b8a\u5f62\uff08\u9019\u9996\u6b4c\u66f2\u4e5f\u4ee5\u4e00\u4f4d\u88ab\u907a\u68c4\u5728\u5bb6\u4e2d\u7684\u5973\u6027\u4f5c\u7d50\u5c3e\uff09\uff1b\u8a72\u4e3b\u9ad4\u900f\u904e\u4e03\u7a2e\u4e0d\u540c\u7684\u81ea\u7136\u548c\u300c\u4eba\u5de5\u300d\u8abf\u5f0f\u4e4b\u300c\u93e1\u982d\u300d\u4f86\u904e\u6ffe\uff0c\u4e26\u4ee5\u4e00\u7cfb\u5217\u6295\u5c04\u5230\u5b9a\u4f4d\u5e8f\u5217\u4e0a\u7684\u5012\u5f71\u5361\u8fb2\u65b9\u5f0f\u6240\u5448\u73fe\u3002<\/p>\n<p>\u300a\u57ce\u5357\u8352\u539f\u300b\u662f\u81f4\u656c\u65bc\u8463\u662d\u6c11\u6559\u6388\uff0c\u7531\u53f0\u5317\u4e2d\u592eC\u5ba4\u5167\u6a02\u5718\u59d4\u8a17\u5275\u4f5c\uff0c\u57282024\u5e743\u67083\u65e5\u5728\u5e15\u7d39\u570b\u969b\u5409\u4ed6\u97f3\u6a02\u7bc0\u4e0a\u9996\u6f14\u4e86\u4e09\u91cd\u594f\u7248\u672c\uff08\u50b3\u7d71\u7b19\u3001\u7435\u7436\u548c\u5927\u63d0\u7434\uff09\u3002\u5b8c\u6574\u7684\u4e94\u91cd\u594f\u7248\u672c\u96a8\u5f8c\u57282024\u5e743\u670830\u65e5\u65bc\u300c\u8de8\u97ff\u300d-\u53f0\u5317\u4e2d\u592eC\u570b\u969b\u7576\u4ee3\u97f3\u6a02\u7bc0\u4e2d\u7531\u53f0\u5317\u4e2d\u592eC\u5ba4\u5167\u6a02\u5718\u548c\u5967\u5730\u5229\u7576\u4ee3\u5ba4\u5167\u6a02\u5718Gunnar
