\"\"I wrote the open score piece flourishing <\/em>as incidental music to be used in the “Crossover Music Theatre”<\/em> performance, put on by Nanhua University Dept. Ethnomusicology at the All Nations Cinema, Dalin, Chiayi, Taiwan on Christmas Day 2022.<\/p>\n

\u6211\u5beb\u4e86\u4e00\u9996\u300c\u958b\u653e\u6a02\u8b5c\u300d\u300a\u6b23\u6b23\u5411\u69ae\u300b\u4f5c\u70ba\u914d\u6a02\uff0c\u7528\u65bc\u5357\u83ef\u5927\u5b78\u6c11\u65cf\u97f3\u6a02\u5b78\u7cfb\u65bc2022\u5e74\u8056\u8a95\u7bc0\u5728\u53f0\u7063\u5609\u7fa9\u5927\u6797\u842c\u570b\u6232\u9662\u4e0a\u6f14\u7684\u300a\u6a02\u821e\u4e32\u6d41\u300b\u8de8\u57df\u97f3\u6a02\u5287\u5834\u8868\u6f14\u3002<\/p>\n

It was performed by mixed Chinese and Western instruments. There was very little rehearsal time, I didn’t really know how the students would take to the piece, and the first time we had the full ensemble together was at the dress rehearsal, so consequently every time I conducted the piece both in rehearsal and performance the structure and effect of the work came out quite differently. Just before the performance, in which the music was to be used in three different places between different scenes, I finally made a map of how the performances could work (of course the students didn’t know what I was going to do). These versions are by no means definitive. I’ve edited recordings of the dress rehearsal and of the performance, to show the different approaches I tried to the material.<\/p>\n
